Former KSWB-er Returns to iWeatherman Roots

Meteorologist Kyle Hunter, a familiar face reporting San Diego weather, has resumed production of iWeatherman.com, after his recent departure from KSWB-TV (Fox 5). Hunter posts current weather reports, twice a day, one at 12 noon and the second at 6 p.m. Hunter is the “World’s First Internet Weatherman – the iWeatherman™” posting his weather reports on the Web, beginning during the earliest days of the Internet in 1992. Tune in to his site  and follow along on Twitter.

KSWB-TV’s Jay Jones headed across town to KUSI-TV where he will be the new producer on the station’s Good Morning San Diego  program. So look for some big changes on San Diego’s independent news station. Send pitches to planner@kusi.com.

Union-Tribune Adds Searchable Database to Find Reporters, Key Staff

You’ve probably noticed the re-design of the San Diego Union-Tribune’s Web site. The site is cleaner, more organized and easier to read. They now have a great searchable database to find reporters, editors and columnists, sharing their name, title, phone, e-mail address and a list of the most recent stories and articles they have written. (This is a PR pros dream!) Access the list here.

Any great publicist and communications pro that works with media on a daily basis doesn’t just rely on an expensive media database to keep their contacts current. That’s why I love blogs that share great information (and opinion) on local news and media moves. SoCal Media Scoop predominantly covers the L.A. DMA – you’ll want to bookmark it and visit it often.

Have KPBS, Will Travel

KPBS has a new mobile Web site, giving smartphone users a better way to access the latest local news and information from KPBS.org. In addition, the new KPBS mobile site features a live stream of KPBS 89.5 FM. Using a mobile Web browser (such as Safari), users can access up-to-the minute local news and information while on the go. It also allows users who are away from their computer or radio to stay up to date on the latest local and national news via the live stream of KPBS 89.5 FM.  The mobile site is not limited to smartphone users, and can be accessed from any Web-enabled phone. The KPBS mobile site was funded by the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Project for Reporting Excellence which was established at KPBS and NPR in late 2006.
